Course Description
This course describes the knowledge and skills required by the worker to develop and facilitate strategies for individual participation in various community settings, functions and activities to enhance the psychosocial well being and lifestyle of a person with a disability

Details of Learning Activities
In this course you will build on the knowledge and skills you have acquired in individual planning and skill development, empowerment and communication to focus on facilitating and supporting community inclusion for people with disabilities. The disability support worker must be able to work with the client and also with the community to maximise the opportunities for people to live life connected to their community. The Certificate IV in Disability includes a field placement in a community disability service of 200 hours across the whole program and the knowledge and skills you gain in this course will be further developed during the field placement.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include:
Assessment Tasks
There are three assessment tasks for this course:
1. Reflective response: Social Role Valorization and Normalisation - students consider these two central philosophies and provide a written response refecting on their influence and effects on the services we offer
2. Research and report: Community options - you will undertake research in local services venues and activities that may be accessed by a person with a disability e.g. a young person seeking local options out of school hours
3. Field Placement report: You will observe and report on how community based options and individual inclusion is occurring in the field placement agency.
