Course Description

This course describes the knowledge and skills required to assist young people to identify the challenges and opportunities in their lives and to work towards their goals on an individual or group level.

Overview of Assessment

Throughout the weeks 1, 3, 4 & 5 a number of formative assessments tasks will be completed in class, including a case study (identifying stages of change), participation in class discussion points regarding social/cognitive/cultural development, role playing communication skills and completion of mind maps and mock action plans (derived from additional case study).

The summative assessment task for this course is based around the interaction with young people on placement conducted in the work environment - students are asked to spend time with two young people on placement and formulate an action plan for a goal the young person has set themselves.
