Course Description

When you work in the live production industry, you could be working in the public or private sector and  interacting with arts professionals in contexts such as community projects, exhibitions, events or festivals. This means it is important that you are able to communicate in a positive way with a wide range of people. This unit delivers the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with a range of arts professionals around cultural and business activities. It includes a series of seminars delivered by industry professionals giving insight into their careers and introducing you to possible career paths.

These guest speakers will be giving you information on their professional experience and you are encouraged to ask questions. You will be taking notes on what the guest speaker is presenting and sharing and discussing these notes with your peers and with the assessor.

Assessment for this course will involve demonstration of knowledge of skills and underpinning theory .


Assessment Tasks

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete all of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive written feedback on all assessment (refer to MyRMIT for assessment criteria).

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1.Notes from 3-4 guest speaker discussions

Develop and engage in informed and appropriate arts industry discussion and apply effective interpersonal and communication skills by asking questions and taking notes when entertainment industry professionals present to class.

This assessment is ongoing from Week 2 to 5 and written feedback will be provided when classes finish.

 

Assessment Task 2.Case Study

Gather information about an entertainment industry professional or company through review/interview/research, using appropriate effective interpersonal and communication skills and knowledge about the entertainment technology industry. You are required to submit your findings as video, audio recording or text.

  • If written, please ensure that you have at lease 800 words with pictures
  • If on PowerPoint/other then include at least 6 slides
  • If you create a website on Google/other then have at least 3 website pages with hyperlinks to the 3 pages
  • If submitting an interview, then please record it on video or audio. It should not be more that an hour long and the recoding does not need to be transcribed. Please submit a copy of the original recording and include the details of the interview – where it occurred, when its occurred, how long it went for, who it was with and a copy of the questions
