Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others and applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) to carry out their own work, either under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility.

Details of Learning Activities

This course has a blended delivery.  Classes are delivered online with some demonstration of skill and knowledge conducted during face to face workshops (subject to Government restrictions due to Covid 19) During online classes, information is shared through talks and discussions.  Workshops will take place, with exercises will be conducted to apply learning.

Time is spent during classes for students to work on group assessment tasks. In your own time, you will be expected to keep up-to-date with the readings and videos that will be made available to you on Canvas. The classes, readings and videos will prepare you to be able to complete your course assessments.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment 1 Knowledge Questions

This short-answer assessment task is one of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. 

This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others.

Assessment 2- Workplace inspection and risk assessment

This practical assessment task is the second of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. 

 This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to conduct a WHS inspection and risk assessment.

Assessment 3- Emergency procedures

This practical assessment task is the final of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. 

This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to follow workplace procedures in a simulated emergency situation.
