Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to identify and work within the legal and ethical frameworks that apply to an individual job role.

This course applies to community services and health workers who play a proactive role in identifying and meeting their legal and ethical responsibilities.

Details of Learning Activities

Classes where information is shared through talks and discussions, and workshops where exercises are conducted to apply learning. Time is spent during classes and workshops for students to work on group and individual assessment tasks.

Week 3 

Identifying ethical responsibilities

  • Defining ethics
  • Identifying, accessing and interpreting sources of information about the ethical responsibilities that apply to your role
  • Meeting ethical responsibilities according to workplace codes, policies and procedures

Week 4 

Maintaining ethical practice

  • Recognising own personal values and attitudes and taking them into account to ensure non-judgemental practice
  • Using effective problem solving techniques to address ethical issues, dilemmas and competing value systems
  • Applying models to make ethical decisions

Recognising and reporting legal and ethical breaches

  • Recognising potential or actual legal breaches and making reports
