Course Description
This course describes the skills and knowledge to apply specific communication techniques to establish, build and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders based on respect and trust.
This course applies to work across a range of workplace contexts where workers at all levels may communicate with individuals and/or groups both in person and in writing.

Details of Learning Activities
This course has a blended delivery. Classes are delivered online with some demonstration of skill and knowledge conducted during face to face workshops (subject to Government restrictions due to Covid 19) During online classes, information is shared through talks and discussions. Workshops will take place, with exercises will be conducted to apply learning.
Time is spent during classes for students to work on group assessment tasks. In your own time, you will be expected to keep up-to-date with the readings and videos that will be made available to you on Canvas. The classes, readings and videos will prepare you to be able to complete your course assessments.

Assessment task 1: Simulated Workplace Portfolio

Assessment Tasks
Assessment task 1 - Simulated Workplace Portfolio
In this task students are required to read and draw on a range of documents from a simulated workplace called Latrobe Valley Community Health, which provides a variety of services to a diverse range of people. The students need to complete a series of reflection questions, to demonstrate their understanding of how to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and situations. This is a written task in which you will need to answer 15 questions. Work will be completed individually.
Assessment task 2: Case study and report
This assessment task will assess students skills and knowledge in using communication to build relationships and work with people from diverse backgrounds. This is a written task in which students will respond to twenty (20) questions posed in relation to case studies and short answer questions.
Assessment task 3: Short Answer Questions
For this assessment, you are asked to respond to thirty-one (31) questions, which relate to workplace scenarios and requirements that will demonstrate your knowledge of using communication to build relationships with diverse people in the community services sector. You will be working individually on this task.
Assessment task 4: Meeting presentation
This practical assessment task requires you to demonstrate your skills in facilitating a meeting to respond to a communication issue. All documents and procedures will be explained over the course of unit. This is a role play task, you will be working as part of a group to complete this task, however assessed only on your own contributions.
