Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. 

This course applies to all workers and includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will  be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry
and/or community is integral to your experience.

A combination of activities will support student’s learning in this course, such as: online delivery to cover theoretical and practical concepts for each topic in the course

• Work experience &/or placements observation of performance in the workplace will be a valuable part of your learning experience

• Tutorial activities (individually and in teams) to discuss, debate, critique and consolidate your ideas and extend your understanding around key concepts within specific topics

• Online discussions and activities to support and collaborate with other students in your course and debate and discuss ideas

• Utilise and develop critical research and cognitive skills to find credible sources of health information

• Self-directed study time (eg. readings or activities around theory) to enhance and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts

• To further facilitate learning students are strongly encouraged to use a range of communication tools between themselves and their course instructor as well as between themselves and fellow students by using the online learning platform

• It is strongly recommended that students partner up with fellow students in order to practice and complete assessments

Assessment Tasks- 

You must demonstrate Performance and Knowledge Evidence of the unit in order to be deemed competent. 
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Competency based training requires you to be in attendance in order for assessment to be undertaken.

Important information regarding Assessment Tasks:

You may be eligible to resubmit your assessments.

Resubmissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the Program Coordinator, after consultation with the teacher.

All students will be contacted by their course coordinator in regards to  resubmission completion dates.

 

SUBMISSION OF ASSESSMENT TASKS

All Assessment tasks should be performed or submitted by their due dates.

You must keep a copy of all submitted assessments including electronic copies. It is expected that any work presented for assessment in this course will be your own. RMIT University has a strict policy on academic integrity and plagiarism. Plagiarism is the presentation of the work, idea or creation of another person as though it is your own. It is a form of cheating and is a very serious academic offence that may lead to expulsion from the University.  EXTENSIONS OF TIME FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSABLE WORK

Where an extension of greater than seven days is needed, you must apply for special consideration.

 SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.), you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 5 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date.
