Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work with basic information about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body.
This unit applies to any worker who needs to use and interpret information that includes references to client anatomy and physiology.

Details of Learning Activities


This course will be delivered completely online.

A combination of activities will support students learning in this course, such as:


- Online lectures to cover theoretical and practical concepts for each topic in the course . The students will be provided with self study materials as well.
- Students will learn to apply their skills and knowledge to work integrated learning (WIL), during simulations and classroom based learning
- Tutorial activities (individually and in teams) to discuss, debate, critique and consolidate your ideas and extend your understanding around key concepts within specific topics
- Online discussion and activities support you to collaborate with other students in your course and debate and debate and discuss ideas( optional activities only) 
- Self directed study time to enhance and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts
- To further facilitate learning, students are strongly encouraged to use a range of communication tools between themselves and their course instructor as well as between themselves and fellow students by using the online learning platform

 


Teaching Schedule

       

The course will be delivered online with the online support from the teacher. This includes:  
  • Online content which you can do at your own pace including viewing instructional videos and engaging in online activities  (the online learning system you are using is called “Canvas”)
  • Online activities in which you interact with your course teacher and fellow students.
  • The online canvas shell will be available to access from 12th July 2021 

The online content of this course has been broken up into modules to assist your learning. There are no set classes and you can choose to engage with the content and review skills and processes as much as you require during the course. We expect you to complete the online learning and activities regularly

Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to participate in discussions with your teacher and other students. Remember that the information you post will be shared with others.

Overview of Assessment

You must demonstrate Performance and Knowledge Evidence of the unit in order to be deemed competent.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Competency based training requires you to be in attendance in order for assessment to be undertaken.



Assessment Tasks


There are four assessment tasks that you must successfully complete in full in order to be deemed competent in this unit:


This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of healthy body systems, common issues affecting body systems, and ways to promote healthy functioning of the body.

When you open the assessments from the links in the assessment page, they will open in a new window. 

You can complete the assessment tasks in your own time and submit but they must all be  submitted by their respective due dates

NameDetails about the assessment task     Due DateAssessment Task 1: Brochure(AT1)This assessment task involves preparing a brochure /infographic for the laboratory workers explaining how to maintain correct body posture while working at a laboratory bench. 12th AugustAssessment task 2( AT2)This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of the way the body systems work together to regulate body temperature. You will do this by responding to a workplace scenario based on Dionus Pathology Labs, your virtual workplace( in the canvas shell)     9th SeptemberAssessment task 3( AT3) This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of how the body systems work together to regulate homeostasis. You will do this by investigating a scenario involving a person with a possible health risk. 30th SeptemberAssessment task 4( AT4) This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body.  21st October


The students will receive satisfactory/ not yet satisfactory result for each assessment task. The students can receive Competency achieved/ Not yet competent result for this competency.

The students are required to receive satisfactory result in each task to receive a competency achieved result for this unit.

Important information regarding Assessment Tasks:

 You may be eligible to resubmit your assessments.

Resubmissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the Program Coordinator, after consultation with the teacher.

All students will be contacted by their course coordinator in regards to  resubmission completion dates.


EXTENSION OR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.) OR you do attend, but your performance has been affected, you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 5 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date. For advice on this application please visit www.rmit.edu.au/students/specialconsideration or speak to your Program Coordinator.


If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to submit by the due date (e.g. assignment, report, project etc.), you may submit an APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSABLE WORK for an extension of time of up to seven (7) calendar days or less. This must be lodged with the Program Coordinator 1 working day before the original due date. If granted, you will have the opportunity to submit up to 7 days later than the original due date. Where an extension of greater than seven days is needed, you must apply for SPECIAL CONSIDERATION.
