Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assist with aspects of human resources management of a project. It involves establishing human resource requirements, identifying the learning and development needs of people working on the project, facilitating these needs being met, and resolving conflict in the team.

It applies to individuals who are project practitioners working in a project support role.

Overview of Assessment

In order to achieve competency in this unit, you must provide:

Performance Evidence

 Evidence of the ability to:   

  • produce work breakdown structures in human resource project planning
  • construct effective methods for monitoring roles, responsibilities and performance in projects
  • demonstrate methods for providing feedback on performance and improving performance of project team members

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, you must:

  • identify alternative project personnel engagement options
  • explain job design principles and work breakdown structures
  • describe learning and development approaches that can be incorporated into project life cycle
  • list methods for skills analysis
  • identify and describe project roles, responsibilities and reporting requirements for human resources

 Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates  consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the management and leadership – project management field of work and include access to:

  • relevant workplace documentation and resources
  • case studies and, where possible, real situations

You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions.  You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed. Finally, you can email or arrange an appointment with your teacher to gain more feedback on your progress.

ASSESSMENT TASKS

You are required to successfully complete 3 individual assessment tasks within this course to be deemed competent.

 

ASSESSMENT TASK 1.1: Practical Task

Learning will take place in the classroom with activities that will be assessed through the practical assessment and submitted on CANVAS before the next class or see teaching schedule for exact dates.

 

ASSESSMENT TASK 1.2: Knowledge Task

Learning will take place in the classroom through activities that will be assessed through the knowledge assessment to consolidate skills and knowledge for this competency and submitted on CANVAS before the next class or see teaching schedule for exact dates.

 

ASSESSMENT TASK 1.3: Product Task

From the practical and knowledge assessments and through the skills and knowledge you have gained, you will develop a document for the business you have chosen as part of your WIL. This will be submitted through CANVAS before the next class or see teaching schedule for exact dates. This will also be included in the final project management document that will consolidate all competencies in this program.

Submission Requirements

You should:

  • Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date via CANVAS.
  • Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
  • When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use a cover sheet that includes a declaration and statement of authorship. You must complete, sign and submit a cover sheet with all work you submit for assessment, whether individual or group work. On the cover sheet you declare that the work you are presenting for assessment is your own work.

  • Projects must be submitted via Canvas.

 

Late Submission Procedures

You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance-based assessment is completed by the due dates. 
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Resubmissions

If you are found to be unsuccessful in a Course Assessment Task, you will be allowed one resubmission only. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission.

If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
