Overview of Assessment

The unit TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation is assessed by students submitting their current transcript for TAEASS403B from their TAE40110 qualification and completing the additional assessment tasks as listed:

Assessment of this unit will consist of:

ASS Task 2:  Participate in the validation of an assessment tool

ASS Task 3:  Short Answer Knowledge Questions (10)

Assessment Tasks

There is a strong emphasis in your assessment tasks on the practical aspects of assessing in your workplace or in a simulated online environment  You will be assessed on your demonstrable skills, knowledge and performance in relation to the validation of assessment tools for accredited units of competency in the national Vocational Education and Training system.

You will be provided with a range of templates on Canvas which you can use to develop and organise your evidence.  These include templates for the following:

  • Assessment instructions
  • Validation templates
  • Case Study documents
  • student assessment exemplars for Moderation

Assessment Task 2 - Participate in assessment validation

This task is the second of three (3) assessment tasks for your upgrade to the Certificate IV TAE40116 in Training and Assessment.  In this task you will demonstrate your ability to participate in assessment validation. As you completed two validations when you undertook the superseded unit TAEASS403B you will need to complete an additional validation to meet the requirements of the current unit TAEASS403.

You will be asked to actively participate actively in the validation of one (1) assessment tool. This validation activity needs to include a statistically relevant sample size of learner outcomes within a post-implementation validation.

You will be provided with an in-class validation activity with learner outcomes from a training and assessment tool to assist you in meeting the requirements for this unit.  You will be provided with an assessment tool and necessary documentation to conduct this validation on the agreed date for the validation via webinar

For the validation:

  • A validation process will be conducted in-class via webinar with an assessment tool and sample of completed assessments for moderation provided.
  • The assessment tool you validate will cover one (1) entire unit of competency and its assessment requirements.
  • The validation activity will include a competency mapping exercise whose purpose is to check if the assessment tool covers the entire unit and its assessment requirements.

You may:

  • Check a completed competency map that is provided, or
  • in the validation session, create a competency map
  • Your mapping exercise must cover the unit’s elements, performance criteria, foundation skills, performance evidence, knowledge evidence, and (as applicable) assessment conditions.

The validation will include a review of student learning outcomes. This sample will be provided by your trainer. – Your trainer will observe your foundation skills when participating in the validation. You will be assessed against the criteria in the Marking Guide at Section B of this assessment (Section C in the Assessors version). You should also refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (Section D)

Assessment Task 3 - Short-answer knowledge questions

You are required to respond in your own words (150-200 words) to 10 questions about assessment. The topics cover key concepts in assessment in VET: Competency-based assessment, principles of assessment, dimensions of competency, Recognition of Prior Learning, inclusive assessment practice, rules of evidence, Workplace Health and Safety, training packages and their uses, assessment instruments and tools and assessment validation.
