Course Description
In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to use typography techniques in your design work. You will develop an understanding of the historicial development, structure and application of typography and its application to different design and communication outcomes.

Learning Outcomes
Details of Learning Activities
You will complete exercises and industry style projects. You will also be required to undertake independent study.
In class activities will include:
- typographic exercises
- peer teaching and class presentations
- group discussion and/or activities

- sourcing relevant reference materials
- sourcing relevant project resources

Teaching Schedule
This course is delivered with 'Research and apply graphic design techniques' (GRAP5393C), and has two integrated assessment tasks that cover all required assessment criteria from each course.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment tasks will require you demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills through practical projects and/or exercises.

Assessment Tasks
This course has 2 x Assessment Tasks. You are required to demonstrate all learning outcomes to a satisfactory standard. To demonstrate competency in this course you need to engage in all of the assessment and learning activities and complete them to a satisfactory standard.

Assessments:
Assessment Task 1: Magazine Design– The design and layout for a magazine masthead and cover designs, and a double page spread for an article, including original visual and graphic components;

Assessment Task 12: Music Event branding – The visual content for the branding of an event, including graphic, image and illustrative components, applied to various collateral and merchandise.
