Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to understand the fundamentals of internet computing and cloud services. It involves undertaking a basic review of business computing needs and identifying options for introducing cloud computing services into a small business or work area in an organisation.
It applies to individuals who use problem-solving skills and take responsibility for adopting and promoting approaches to improve business operations.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

The collaborative classroom based activities will include group discussion, question & answer sessions, interactive group demonstrations of the application of Cloud Computing .
The self-paced activities will be delivered through various technology platforms, including the use of a computerised systems, quizzes & interactive sessions.

Performance Evidence
Evidence of the ability to:
- review and analyse business computing use and needs, including equipment and software requirements
- collect and analyse information about cloud computing including:
- seeking assistance from specialist advisor as required
- performing cost-benefit analysis
- identifying potential risks
- make the business case to introduce cloud computing
- prepare a plan and support others to implement cloud computing.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Knowledge Evidence
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
- explain fundamentals of cloud computing, including key terms and concepts
- outline sources of information about cloud computing for micro or small business, and options specific to the business
- describe how to undertake a cost-benefit analysis and prepare a budget
- summarise business protocols for using services of specialist advisors.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the Management and Leadership Small and Micro Business field of work and include access to:
- business equipment and resources
- business technology
- relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes
- relevant workplace documentation and resources
- case studies or where possible, real situations
- interaction with others.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Assessment 1
This is assessment task one (1) of two (2) that you must complete satisfactorily in order to be deemed competent for this unit.
Summary and Purpose of Assessment
The purpose of this assessment is to for students to demonstrate their ability to list and define the key requirements to Introducing cloud computing into business operations, this includes demonstrating an understanding of the fundamentals of internet computing and cloud services.
Assessment Instructions
You are required to complete the following three parts that cover materials from Week 1 to Week 4
- Part A – Short Answer Questions (Q1 – Q3)
- Part B – Case Studies (Task 1 – Task 3)
- Part C – Oral Presentation
Assessment 2
This is assessment task two (2) of two (2) that you must complete satisfactorily in order to be deemed competent for this unit (due in Week 8).
Summary and Purpose of Assessment
The purpose of the assessment is to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in reviewing computing needs and creating a plan to implement a cloud computing solution within a small business environment.
Assessment Instructions
You are to read the scenario below and answer questions related to the scenario. You are to create a business case for a Cloud Accounting software solution for a bookkeeping small business (Easy Bookkeeping) to present it your teacher for feedback. (3 to 4 mins).

The assessment matrix that maps all the assessment is available on CANVAS under Assignments.
All assessments will utilise a competency-based model and will be deemed as either Satisfactory or Not Yet Satisfactory.

Submission Requirements:
You should:
- Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
- Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
- When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use the Assessment task document that includes a declaration and statement of authorship.
- Each page of your assessment should include footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers.
Late Submission Procedures:
You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Resubmissions (VE Programs):
If you are found to be unsuccessful in a particular Course Assessment Task (or you do not submit/attend) you will be allowed one resubmission. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission.
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
