Course Description
This module focuses on the full range of management roles and tasks that a youth development worker may need to perform and about which will need to know. The module begins by exploring the concept of management and the theories informing the practices of management. It then focuses on showing how to manage both resources and staff a manager is responsible for. It also guides you through management organisational development and change. Key management processes are covered in detail, including managing time, managing oneself, managing resources, staff development, budgeting and monitoring expenditure and managing communication and information technology.

Details of Learning Activities
Students will explore what management is and then the relevant skills assocaited with that. This will include specifically working in the not-for-profit sector.
Students will be required to use their current employment as the basis of nforming their assessment pieces.
The readings are included in the unit book, which will also inform when they are relevant to the course.
Teaching Schedule
This module is divided into seven units:
Unit 1: Management - an overview
Unit 2: Managing in the not-for-profit sector
Unit 3: Managing work
Unit 4: Managing youth development work
Unit 5: Managing human resources
Unit 6: Managing organisational change
Unit 7: Managing communication and ICT.
It is anticpate that each of these will take roughly one week each to complete as part of theeven weeks dedicated tothis module.

Assessment Tasks
Your work in this module will be assessed through:
1. The completion of the unit assessment tasks that are carried ot throughout the module (30%). There are four assignments - at the end of Units 2, 4, 6 and 7. All of these assignments will add up to 30% of the unit assesment.
2. The learning journal that you will keep for recording your responses to the different learning activites in each of the units (20%)
3. A report of 1,750 words. (50%) For this assignment you will be asked to prepare a report which will address management strategies. The report will also include a plan of activities and a proposed budget
