Course Description
The aim of this unit is to introduce the student to the idea and practices of learning that are relevant to youth development work. The Module focuses on the role of the youth development worker as an educator and./or education facilitator. It explores the theories of learning and their influences. It identifies the different ways in which people learn and the factors that inhibit or facilitate learning. It also considers experiential learning as a method that is appropriate to youth development workers and examines appropriate strategies for face-to-face work with young people and adults.

Details of Learning Activities
THe moduel will cover the follwoing units awhich are expected to take approximately one week each of teh seven weeks for this moduel:
- Unit 1: What is learning?
- Unit 2: How adults learn
- Unti 3: Eduation for all
- Unit 4: Informal education
- Unit 5 What helps and hinders learning?
- Unit 6: Learning styles
- Unit 7: Facilitating adult learning.
Teaching Schedule
On completion of the module students will be able to:
- identify and discuss key theories on learning
- outline the prnciples of adult learning and the characteristics of adults learners
- give an overview of important psychological and philosophical principles relevant to ’education for all ’ and youth development work
- descirbe the characteristics of informal education and apply this knowledge to youth development work
- identify factors that help and hinder people’s learning particuarly in informal settings
- explain what is meant by ’experiential learning’
- describe your own and other people’s learning style/s and mode of intelligence
- devise efffective stratgies for learning with a range of individuals and groups in youth development work
- make use of the techniques of informal and experiential learning in youth development work
- enable other people to make use of these techniques in youth develppment work.

- Learning journal - students will submit the self-help questins and activities found througout the module.
