Course Description
This module explores the theory and practice of how to ensure equal outcomes for young women and young men. It examines an arrange of theories and approaches in different development of feminist traditions and explores the implications for youth development work. It looks at the development issues that affect men and women and the ways these issues may affect them differently. It also examines the concept of gender and development and how this can be applied to projects and practical work.

Studnets will coplete five units for this moduel over the seven weeks allcoated to it:
- Unit 1: Gender issues in youth development work
- Unit 2: Inequality and discrimination
- Unit 3:The role of gender in development
- Unit 4: Creating gender awareness
- Unit 5: Feminist theories
Teaching Schedule
At the end of this module students will be able to:
- discuss a range of gender and feminist theories and approaches wtihin different political, social and cultural traditions
- give example of ways in which inequality between women and men manifests itself in the social stucture and in social relationships
- explain the role of gender in development
- desciribe the implications of gender issues for the practice of youth devellopment work
- crticially assess current youth services of whch you have experinece in the light of your learning for this module
- intervene effectively in a range of youth work situations in relation to gender issues
- construct informal education programs that focus on gender issues
- make changes in agencies’ policies and programs to achieve equality of outcomes for young women and men

The assessment tasks for this module are:
- Learning journal - students will submit the activities and self-help questions located in the module booklet for assessment
- a 500 word written assignment whch will help to deepen your understanding of the WID, WAD and GAD development approaches
- Answer set questions for a case study which highlght some of the dangrs of gener blindness in project planning and implementation.
