Course Description

Students extend their knowledge of drawing and drawing mediums and techniques, and apply these concepts to a major body of work that significantly supports and extends their other practical areas.
In this course drawing is recognised as an autonomous medium in its own right, as well as a medium for recording and shaping initial ideas for further development in other disciplines.

Learning Outcomes


1. Use a variety of drawing techniques and mediums to create a resolved body of drawn images                                                                                                                                 2. Develop drawing as a creative activity which broadens the physical dexterity and the mental faculties of the student                                                                                            3. Demonstrate through the production of artwork a more sophisticated application of the visual elements within the drawing process
4. Demonstrate, through the production of drawings, an understanding of the processes, procedures, and requirements of projects involving drawing for specific purposes
5. Describe and explain the application of a refined knowledge of materials and techniques in the drawing process
6. Produce a series of drawings in tandem with a project in an area of major study
7. Analyse the work practices of established artists by explaining how they use drawing as part of the creative process


Details of Learning Activities

Studio based learning. Students produce a body of work in response to two (2) Prescribed projects. Additional self-initiated drawing is produced in relation to major/Minor study areas.

Folio presentation marked by a panel, with written response.


Assessment Tasks


- 2 major Project works and back up demonstrating a sophisticated conceptual understanding of drawing
- Demonstration of a personal development of subject and mediums
- Visual Art Journal
- Drawing relating to Major/Minor studies
- Class participation and attendance at studio tutorials


NB: Work must reflect consistent interaction with tutors in the studio in order to be considered for assessment.
