Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely use and maintain standing workshop machinery.

Learning Outcomes
1. Identify safety preparations to be undertaken before operating standing machinery
2. Identify a range of standing equipment and its purpose
3. Describe correct procedures and use of standing equipment
4. Demonstrate the basic maintenance of standing machinery
5. Describe the principles of machine shop layout
Details of Learning Activities
1.Student induction to work shop environment with a nominated teacher. Six students per cluster to be taken through OH&S workshop lay out and function. Disscussion and implementation of acceptable codes of dress and behavior in the Machine shop environment.
2.Student Introduction to static machines and there function and capacity . Layout and orientation in the Machine shop environment
3. Students will be shown by demonstration correct pre operative and operative procedures by identifying suitable static machines to produce fully dimensioned timber components to make up a project based side table. Student cluster to machine all components under teacher supervision.
4.Students will be shown by demonstration essential pe operative operative and after operative machine maintenance.
5. Disscussion on machine shop layout for proper flow through of work.
In order to achieve learning outcomes students will participate in the following activities:
- Attend and prepare notes during sheduled classes
- Participate in class disscussion and demonstrations.
- Research using internet handouts and recomended reference
- Prepare answers to class exersises involving theory and practical tasks

Overview of Assessment
Students will be assessed on their usage of the basic static machines converting timber into parts for workshop set projects. Underpinning knowledge of machine operation is assessed using workbook tests
Assessment Tasks
Operation of Static machinary to produce dimensioned components for the "lamp table" project. Assessment will be formed by teacher observation and product quality check
Underpinning knowledge assesment via student Work Book
Both assessment tasks must be completed to achieve competency.
