Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner including Recognition of Prior Learning and Current Competency.  Competency must be achieved in all computer applications studied. Assessment  of competency will incorporate class exercises and problem solving challenges.  Students will have the choice of attempting  graded assessments to  receive more than a Pass for this course. Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Assessment Tasks

During the Review week for each application, students undertake  a series of assessment tasks that focus on the students’ practical ability to solve problems and provide practical solutions to realistic workplace tasks requiring the use of MS Office. During these tasks students are encourged to use online help and other resources to successfully complete the tasks as would be expected in the workplace.

Final Assessments - Optional
In Weeks 16 & 17 students have the an opportunity to have the documents and presentations that they have produced for BUSM6008C Manage personal work priorities and professional development assessed for a graded mark.  Assessment criteria for BUSM 6008C Assessments 2 & 3 that apply to this final assessment will be available in Week 6. If MS Excel is not used in either of these assessments, a separate assessment will be run in Week 16,17.

Competency Based Assessment

Students will be provided with more than one opportunity to demonstrate competence.  The student must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks. For grading purposes an optional final test will be offered during the last weeks of classes.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Grading
A pass in each assessment will result in competency for the student (a mark of 50). The student must achieve competency (a pass) in each assessment to be deemed competent. Competency MUST be achieved in all assessments of the course for eligibility to sit the final test for a graded result to be obtained.

In order to obtain a mark greater than 50, the student must pass all the packages covered in the final test.

Teacher Contact
Out of class communication to all students will occur using the RMIT student email. It is essential that you check your email prior to attending each class. Consultation times will be made available to you in the first week of classes. Consultations may also be arranged via email.

Study Issues
Issues pertaining to this course, indivdidual progress and attendance should be discussed with the class teacher in the first instance. The Program Co-ordinator can also be contacted for administrative issues pertaining to RMIT processes. A Student Consultative Committee for the Diploma of Business Management meets twice a semester and your input to that process is also valued.
