Course Description
This Competency covers the process of implementing revegetation works. It requires the ability to prepare equipment and materials for revegetation, prepare a planting site, undertake revegetation works, and maintain a revegetated site.
This Competency is taught in tandem with PUBH9694C Observe Environmental Work Practices which covers the process of observing and contributing to positive environmental work practices. It also requires awareness of relevant legislation and policies aimed at improving environmental performance. In other words we must be sure that planned works do not negatively impact on the environment.

Learning Outcomes
This is a competency based course. Students will be introduced to a wide range of revegetation scenarios, and will acquire planning and practical skills sufficient to plan and undertake a revegetation project.
Details of Learning Activities
Learning activities for this course will consist of:
Classroom theory-Rationale for revegetation; seed collection, soil stabilisation, propagation, planting, weed control, maintenance etc
-Plant ID and Site Assessment- ascertaining revegetation requirements .
-A number of Field Trips aimed at recognising the opportunities and challenges facing revegetation efforts in a number of different contexts.
-Indigenous Nursery visit (VINC)
-Management responses to the challenges facing revegetation eg weeds, feral animals, humans, erosion / run-off management, fire.
-Practical revegetation exercises at a number of sites.
A Revegetation plan will be a major assessment requirement.
Note: Students will be expected to attend a range of all day Field Trips in all weathers. The Worksheets completed on these Field Trips and in Class will constitute a major resource for the open-book exam at the end of the Course.
Teaching Schedule
The Course will run on Mondays during 2nd Term.
On the majority of days this Course runs for the full day.
On field-trip days we usually start at 9am and try to return to the city by 4.30.
On non-field trip days classes will run from 9.30-12.30 Monday morning
These times may be subject to change if unforeseen circumstances arise.
A detailed Timetable will be given to you on the first day of classes.
Attendance at all activities is compulsory.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment will be based on practical demonstration of skills, 2 Reports and an open book exam.
Assessment Tasks
There is a graded assessment for this Course based on:
- a Schedule of Works for a revegetation project (20%)
-a revegetation plan (40%)
- an open book exam (40%)
A detailed ’rubric’ clearly setting out the requirements for each of these tasks will be given to you when the assignment is introduced in class.
In addition students will be asked to display Competency in a practical planting exercise. You will need to be Competent in this Task in order to gain Competency in the overall Course.
