Course Description
To enable learners to:
• develop skills in the application of fashion design and colour theories
• provide assistance in the interpretation of design briefs, researching of fashion trends
• assist with costing and in the presentation of garment design concepts

PLANNED LEARNING EXPERIENCES
1. Examination of styling details through application of design features to different figure types
2. Identification of target markets by means of research on customer and market groups
3. Investigation of local and global fashion trends, life-style and seasons through reference to media such as journals, the Internet other fashion resources
4. Selection of fabrics and colour combinations in relation to fashion styling: sourcing materials, practical activities in the application of techniques used in the development of fashion themes
5. More complex use of presentation techniques including storyboards and computer aided design in order to explain design concepts.
6. Preliminary garment costings through activities such as doing of garment cost break-ups, compiling and reporting costs.

Overview of Assessment
Overview of Assessment:
Tasks that have not been authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is necessary to demonstrate that you can:
1. Complete research activities to investigate fashion trends, market groups and other factors that may influence fashion design concepts
2. Assist in selecting fabrics, trims and manufacturing processes that are compatible with the garment’s design and function and also in accordance with design briefs, specifications or customer instructions.
3. Assist in the development and presentation of styling details or variations according to given fashion story themes and the application fashion design principles
4. Give and receive appropriate information during the design process: use of correct terms, graphic written and oral information; folio and story-board work and completing presentation of design concepts by demonstrating ability to use appropriate presentation techniques (oral, written and graphic, computer aided design). This assessment event may be linked to the Team Work subject
5. Assist in compiling information for preliminary costing by producing garment cost break-ups and reporting cost estimates using appropriate written information (as a simulation or a workplace based activity)
6. Follow Occupational Health and Safety procedures
