Course Description
This unit encompasses the knowledge and skills required to manufacture simple support elements for visual display.

Details of Learning Activities
On your timetable, this competency will be referred to as
Studio.
In this unit you will develop the skills required to design and manufacture Visual Merchandising props and signage in a simulated workplace environment. The props and signage will be suitable for various, in-store and retail environments.
Students will undertake O.H.S. Training, relevant to the environment, the tools equipment and the materials being used.
NOTE You will; be advised on the appropriate types of footwear, and this footwear will be worn at all times.
Failure to comply with this ruling will mean that you will not be able to enter the production area.

Assessment Tasks
1. Introduction to studio, demonstration of tools and equipment, O.H.S issues.
2. Demonstration of the hot-wire cutters, students will cut 3 geometric shapes.
Brief 1. The manufacture of a riser for V.M.P.
Brief 2. The design and manufacture of a brand name panel and icon for V.M.P.
Brief 3. The deign and manufacture of an Art Deco screen, to be used in V.M.P..
Brief 4. The manufacture of a decorative frame, to be used in V.M.P.
All briefs are evenly weighted and the marks are averaged out at the completion of the unit.

• Attendance
The major learning experience involves group work, class interaction, presentations and installations. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.
• Work not seen in progress
If a student hands in any work that the teacher has never seen in class or discussed with the student prior to the submission, the teacher can refuse the work on the basis of authentication issues.
• Late submissions
Late submissions may be considered at the teacher’s discretion, provided that:
a. A medical certificate has been produced; or
b. 48 hours notice is given re the inability to meet the nominated deadline; or
c. Special consideration forms have been completed.
Late submissions must be in consultation with the teacher and penalties may occur.
This is aligned with standard visual merchandising industry practice.
• Students may be permitted to resubmit work upon application with course teacher.
• Course guide is subject to change in relation to industry demands and availability.
