Course Description

This unit involves the application of fundamental knowledge and skills to present a variety of products in retail, exhibition and photo styling settings.

Element:

Maintain and use a display tool kit

Performance Criteria:

Display tool kit is stocked and tools are maintained in working order.

Tools are used according to occupational health and safety requirements and manufacturer instructions

Element:

Produce and suspend simple styrene shapes and display cards

Performance Criteria:

Styrene cutting, painting and design techniques suitable for multipurpose displays are applied to industry standard.

Styrene shapes and display cards are hung in both horizontal and vertical formats as designated by their design. 

Industry standard pinning and nylon knotting techniques are used to suspend vertical and horizontal shapes.

Relevant occupational health and safety procedures are followed consistently.

Element:

Produce simple displays

Performance Criteria:

Product displays are produced to show purposefully designed groupings.

Groupings clearly reflect display form, shape, composition and depth.

Design principles of flow, unity, harmony and depth are demonstrated in displays.

Colour and texture are used to enhance displays.

Displays are created using self-built and commercially supplied risers.

Workplace safety procedures with regard to the construction of visual displays are adhered to consistently.

• Students must pass all assessment tasks in order to pass this course


• Attendance
The major learning experience involves group work, class interaction, presentations and installations. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.


• Work not seen in progress
If a student hands in any work that the teacher has never seen in class or discussed with the student prior to the submission, the teacher can refuse the work on the basis of authentication issues.


• Late submissions
Late submissions may be considered at the teacher’s discretion, provided that:
a. A medical certificate has been produced; or
b. 48 hours notice is given re the inability to meet the nominated deadline; or
c. Special consideration forms have been completed.
Late submissions must be in consultation with the teacher and penalties may occur.
This is aligned with standard visual merchandising industry practice.


• Students may be permitted to resubmit work upon application with course teacher.


• Course guide is subject to change in relation to industry demands and availability.

Other Information

FOOTWEAR

Students must have fully covered feet at all times.

Thongs, ballet shoes slip ons, high heels  are not ACCEPTABLE as footwear items .
This is a studio workplace environment, and as such OH&S regulations must be adhered to.

You will be asked to leave the class if you wear inappropriate footwear.

There are no exceptions regarding this issue.
