Course Description

This unit describes the function associated with gathering, analysing and evaluating all relevant data for the transaction following confirmation of initial instructions from the client.

Learning Outcomes


On completion of this course students should be able:

  •  To demonstrate a complete appreciation of documents in use in the conveyancing transaction such as the contract note, contract of sale and vendor’s statement and the relevant legislation and cases that apply to their interpretation.
  • In addition mastery of other related topics will be expected including the real estate industry, consumer legislation, requisitions and searches.


Details of Learning Activities

Students are expected to attend class and engage in weekly learning activities in relation to each topic. Preparation and review time should be allocated outside class so that there is successful completion of all assessments.

There is a research assignment or auction report to present in the last few weeks of semester. Preparation for this task should begin from week 8 to allow ample time to attend auction or do research.

Overview of Assessment

Assessments may include: short in class exercises, class tests, question and answer activities, assignments and open book exams.
Students will be provided with formative feedback to establish their progress in the course and identify areas which need more work.

Assessment Matrix

To pass this course students must satisfactorily complete all assessment and have a total mark of not less than 50%.

Assessment will be graded according to the following mark table:
