Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to manage a straightforward project or a section of a larger writing or editing project. It focuses on essential project management and the need to meet deadlines.

1.1 Clarify the boundaries of the project, or section of a larger project, in terms of purpose, budget, aim, product, outcome of project, and the timeline

2.1 Develop plan and confirm (as required): timeline, milestones, deliverables, and communication protocols

2.2 Build the reporting requirements into the plan

2.3 Clarify and confirm resource requirements and where resources can be obtained

2.4 Specify timeline and confirm and what is to be achieved by each deadline

2.5 Consult with team members and take their views into account when formulating plan

2.6 Inform the team members and other interested personnel of the project, the deadlines and how it is to be organised

Teaching Schedule

Manage a Project is delivered and assessed within your Refine Writing and Editing  specialisations. For example, you discuss the skills required to manage a desk-top publishing project, the develoment of a novel, an editing project etc.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment includes the completion of a written exercise and demonstration of competency through your chosen writing specialisations.


    Assessment Tasks


    Manage a Project is assessed firstly through a preliminary exercise specific to the competency.  This exercise will be e-mailed to  you by the unit coordinator with directions on how to submit the assessment. The assessment is due by April 11.

    Manage a Project is also assessed within each of your Refine Writing and Editing  specialisations by your writing teachers . Successful completion of the assessment will demonstrate competency in managing a range of projects.   See Refine Writing and Editing course guides for assessment details.

    To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete all assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessment.
