Course Description

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to interpret and respond to a brief through the production of a piece of writing.

1.3 Source and evaluate information pertinent to the brief

2.1 Develop the initial design concept consistent with the parameters of the brief
2.2 Evaluate and explore options for refining the concept to best meet the parameters of the brief

3.1 Agree on the communication process and the frequency of communication with the client

Interpret and respond to a brief is delivered and assessed within each of your Refine Writing and Editing  specialisations. For example, you look at the skills required to interpret and respond to a brief regarding a desk-top publishing project, an article for a newspaper, a short story, an editing project etc.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment includes short exercises and demonstration of this competency within a chosen Writing Specialisation.
   


Assessment Tasks


Interpret and respond to a brief  is assessed through a preliminary exercise specific to this competency. This exercise will be e-mailed to you by the unit coordinator on February 27 with directions on how to submit the assessment. The assessment is due by April 12.

Interpret and respond to a brief is also assessed within each of your Refine Writing and Editing  specialisations, by your writing teachers . Successful completion of the assessment will demonstrate competency in responding to a brief for a range of writing and editing projects  See Refine Writing and Editing course guides for assessment details.

To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete all assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessment.

Submission of Assessment Tasks
You are required to submit all assessment tasks in hard copy with a completed School of Media and Communication cover sheet. You are expected to keep a copy of all assignments submitted.

Late Submissions
If you are unable to complete any piece of assessment by the due date, you will need to apply for an extension before that due date.
