Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage quality within projects.

It covers determining quality requirements, implementing quality assurance processes, and using review and evaluation to make quality improvements in current and future projects.

This unit is delivered using a blend of classroom-based and self-paced learning activities.

If you are undertaking this course in Melbourne from semester 2, 2012 onward your class will be held in a specialist computing lab. Students are not required to have their own mobile computing device during class time. It is however recommended that you have access to a mobile computing device to allow greater flexibility in terms of where you can work on campus outside class times.

Performance Criteria:

1. Quality objectives, standards and levels are determined, with input from stakeholders and guidance of a higher project authority, to establish the basis for quality outcomes and a quality management plan
2. Established quality management methods, techniques and tools are selected and used to determine preferred mix of quality, capability, cost and time
3. Quality criteria are identified, agreed with a higher project authority and communicated to stakeholders to ensure clarity of understanding and achievement of quality and overall project objectives
4. Agreed quality requirements are included in the project plan and implemented as basis for performance measurement
1. Results of project activities and product performance are measured and documented throughout the project life cycle to determine compliance with agreed quality standards
2. Causes of unsatisfactory results are identified, in consultation with the client, and appropriate actions are recommended to a higher project authority to enable continuous improvement in quality outcomes

Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of competency to be deemed competent.

A range of assessment methods are used to assess practical skills and knowledge, for example:
• Direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
• Review of authenticated documents from the workplace or training environment
• Demonstration of techniques

 


Assessment Tasks

Assessment Tasks:

1. Project 1: This assessment requires learners to submit an analysis of a case study where a disaster occurred
2. Project 2: This assessment requires learners to prepare a disaster recovery plan that incorporates quality aspects for a selected case study
3. Project Management Plan: Learners select and complete number of templates that will assist them to manage their projects
4. Weekly Status Presentations: Learners present progress on their project on a weekly basis
5. Project Final Report :This assessment focuses on preparing a professional final project report
6. Exam: This assessment enables learners to relate their experience to the theoretical concepts

Other Information

Competency Requirements:

Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks.

To be deemed competent students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a competency including employability skills.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Students must achieve competency (CA) in each competency based assessment task.

Each assessment task will also carry a numerical weighting to be used for grading purposes to reflect participation, quality and professionalism.

Grading:

A student’s final grade will be the total of their accumulated marks across all assessment tasks.
