Details of Learning Activities
This is a studio based course covering both theory and practical aspects of planning production processes.
Individual and group projects will be undertaken and will develop skills to:
- participate effectively in planning production
- interpret and use data from a range of sources
- communicate effectively with individuals, work groups and supervisors
- document and transfer information
- read, interpret and follow information on work specifications, standard operating
- procedures and work instructions, and other reference material
- maintain accurate records
- meet specifications
- clarify and check task-related information
- carry out work according to OHS practices
Learning Activities for this Unit are concurrently delivered with Develop Textile Designs and Specifications VART5912C, assessment tasks may be common to both Units.
Teaching Schedule
1 Introduction to Course Outline. OH&S for Print/Knit/Weave/Digital Labs & studios. PROJECT: PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT_Identify product specifications for samples. Introduction Course Outline_Project Briefs_OH&S Induction_ Participate in Production Planning Session: Production Plan briefing. _Overview of Production: Prepare, Plan and Produce a Product.
^NOTE: students are required to supply and manage own materials for production.
2 PROJECT: PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT_Develop a series of samples, including: Selecting appropriate materials to meet requirements & ensure equipment set up ready for sample development.
3 PROJECT: Develop the samples identifying original design specifications. ASSESSMENT: PREPARE A PRODUCTION PLAN & TIMELINE
4 PROJECT: PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT _Develop the samples, including: Selecting appropriate materials to meet requirements & according to specifications.
5 PROJECT: PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT _Results of the trials are analysed to determine performance and acceptability for production.
6 PROJECT: PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT _ Gather specific production information
7 PROJECT: PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT _Production development & Finishing and Testing
8 PROJECT: PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT_ Analyse and interpret results. Participate in planning meeting. Specific requirements for meetings are confirmed. Planning meetings are held to review and analyse production plan and requirements Assessment Review Meeting and Panel Assessment

studio practice:
You are reminded you must follow appropriate Studio Practice; observe safe work practices, consider the safety of others and the correct handling of equipment and resources. You will be assessed on your demonstration of responsible workshop practice, correct handling of resources. All work is due at the commencement of class on the Due Date.
illness, absence, inability:
If you are unable to complete class work due to illness please notify your class teacher immediately. If you are absent from class you are asked to follow the correct procedure as stated in the RMIT Induction Booklet and notify your class teacher of any absence before the absence occurs. Late submission:
Students requiring extensions for 7 calendar days or less (from the original due date) must complete and lodge an Application for Extension of Submittable Work (7 Calendar Days or less) form and lodge it with the Senior Educator/ Program Manager.
The application must be lodged no later than one working day before the official due date. The student will be notified within no more than 2 working days of the date of lodgement as to whether the extension has been granted.
Students seeking an extension of more than 7 calendar days (from the original due date) must lodge an Application for Special Consideration form under the provisions of the Special Consideration Policy, preferably prior to, but no later than 2 working days after the official due date.

Overview of Assessment
To achieve successful completion of this course students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of competency.
Assessment tasks have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner.
Students will be awarded a grade only if competency has been demonstrated within the standard enrolment period on the first assessment attempt.
Units assessed as ’not yet competent’ on a first assessment attempt and ’competent’ on a second or subsequent attempt are to have results amended to competent but are not eligible for grading.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher.
All work must be submitted by the due date. Late submission will not be graded higher
