Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to perform tapestry techniques to produce tapestry design samples.
The unit applies to the interpretation of design specifications and use of tapestry looms and techniques to produce tapestry design samples.

Learning Outcomes
To achieve competency in this course students will be set a range of tasks and projects which enable them to:
• analyse design specifications and interpret production requirements
• produce tapestry sample according to design specifications
• make minor adjustments to equipment
• identify and address faults
• monitor own work and conduct quality check of sample outcome
Details of Learning Activities
In this studio based course students will -
- Develop an appreciation of the medium through visits to Workshops, studios and exhibitions
- Undertake a range of briefs to create tapestry samples
- Learn to set up a loom and employ basic tapestry weaving skills
- Acquire knowledge of materials used
- Produce of woven samplers and small finished tapestry
- Monitor equipment used
- Build awareness of OHS requirements and regulations

- A4 ring binder suitable for plastic sleeves
- 1packet tapestry needles with blunt end, suggest no. 17
- 1black marker pen, permanent, medium tip
- masking tape, narrow
Overview of Assessment
To achieve successful completion of this course students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of Competency.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.
Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including technical folder, documentation, homework and in class exercises, report, practical problem solving exercises and samples. Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Assessment Tasks
To achieve competency in this course students will be expected to submit the following -
Technical folder- a comprehensive folder containing class notes, individual research into tapestry and written report
Sampler folio of completed work - three samplers that demonstrate knowledge of weaving shapes, use of colour and woven textures with attention to finishing procedures. Group Analysis tasks
Final woven design - production of a small tapestry of original design with attention to techniques learned in production of samples
Students will be expected to undertake in class- discussion of the medium, observation checklist exercise, production of woven work .

Other Information
This studio based course is conducted in simulated workshop conditions and OHS requirements are observed at all times. Fully covered footwear is mandatory in the classroom/studio.
