Course Description
This course covers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake a straightforward project or a section of a larger project such as a short film. The emphasis is on the skills and knowledge required to successfully undertake screen content project based work of a fixed duration in the screen and digital media industries.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course you will have experienced and developed the skills required to independently produce screen and media content in the screen and media industries.

You will participate in a range of class workshops and on location projects that will help equip you with the skills to successfully manage a film production to industry standard.

This is an extensive set of notes and professional guidelines for production in Australia that may provide additional details to some of the material covered in this course.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment tasks are practical and directly relevant to the production of screen and media content.
Assessment Tasks
You will each write/produce/direct a fictional film of five to seven minutes in duration and complete post-production and delivery within the scheduled time allocated to you. The class filming schedule has been posted on Blackboard. A range of assessments will be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. You will participate in a range of class workshops and on location productions that will help eqip you with the skills to manage a film production using industry procedures.
You will demonstrate:
- a professional approach to advising and maintaining lines of communication with all parties involved in the production of Undertake Project Work.
- a professional approach to time and organisational management
- and initiate and organise production meetings with relevant student colleagues
Assessments will be divided between Formative (not graded) and Summative (graded) assessments.
Production Wikis will be created on Blackboard. students will post their pre-production and other paperwork on the Wikis by the due dates. All work must be clearly lablled with student’s names and title of production.
Each of the following assessment tasks must be completed by each student in the process of production.
Formative assessment task 1:
Draft script: set out in industry accepted format.
Due date: four weeks before first day of shooting.
Summative assessment task 1: (graded)
Folio of complete pre-production documentation for your short film project.

Shooting plan (either marked up screenplay or shotlist or storyboard)

Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.

Work Placement:
It is a requirement of this program that all students participate in authentic work related tasks. These may be either simulated or in a real work environment. On occasion, we are approached by industry and given opportunities for students to apply for short term placements. When these placement opportunities arise, students are required to negotiate the specific details with the relevant program coordinator or teacher. All industry placements require students, RMIT staff and host organisations to sign a written agreement prior to the commencement of the placement.
