Course Description
This unit of competency, Create Digital Visual Effects CUFANM402A is delivered in the classess Imaging 1 and Imaging 2. The unit covers the skills required to create digital visual effects for a screen based production. In addition, particular attention will be paid to still image and broadcast compositing effects.
This unit is co-delivered with Implement design solutions BSBDES501A in semester one, and assessed independently.

On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements. In addition, you will have developed the skills required to create digital visual effects and titles for a screen based production.

Students are required to make extensive use of the lynda.com database and associated University library facilities, in researching and developing digital imaging, graphic and motion design skills and techniques. Learning material for this course includes After Effects tutorials hosted on lynda.com, structured classroom activities such as team research and presentation tasks, animation and design races, project discussion and individual feedback.
Your two summative assessments will enable you to demonstrate intermediate and advanced imaging and visual efffects skills. Formative assessments will be conducted and/or presented during class time.
Students are encouraged to make full use of class time, open studio time and University computer lab and equipment resources. You are advised to look at the course Blackboard page for ongoing updated information.

Demonstrate your understanding of basic transformations in After Effects, by animating supllied artwork.
A02 - Concept presentations for "Revolutionary" Motion Graphic Animation (30 Secs)
Present your concepts for the Revolutionary Motion Graphic Animation
A03 - "Revolutionary" Motion Graphic Animation (30 Secs)
Demonstrate your aquired skills and knowledge by conceiving, designing and animating an HD motion graphic animation, in the style of a revolutionary poster.
A04 - Summative - Greenscreen/3D Composite
Build a live action, greenscreen composite jointly with the 3D 2 class, based on Orson Welles’ film "Citizen Kane"

Recreate a contemporary composited artwork with your own touch, by renowned digital artist Julianne Kost
A02 - Colour correction exercise
Demonstrate your understanding of intermediate image correction skills, by colour correcting a series of digital stills

Communication
Email and Blackboard will be used outside of class hours for all communication regarding the course. Students need to check their emails and Blackboard at least once every day. Appointments with the teachers need to be organised via email.
