Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge to analyse the fit of a garment or toile on the individual body, making necessary adjustments and altering the pattern.

Learning Outcomes
On sucessful completion of this unit you will have developed the required skills and knowledge required as it applies to fitting a garment or toile on an individual and making size and fit alterations on the garment or toile; then transferring these alterations to the pattern. You will also develop the required skills in communication to take and document measurements and pattern requirements. Planning and organising, problem solving and initiative and enterprise skills as required to determine fit and pattern requirements. Self management skills as required to ensure quality standards are met.

The course is integrated with LMTFD5010A Develop and present Design concepts within specific guidelines
and LMTFD4004A Calculate cost estimates for fashion products to form a cluster or learning program called Design Studio 2.
In this course you will be involved in blended learning with both theoretical and practical tasks involved in the development and fit of patterns. This process will be integrated into the following key activities that you are required to undertake
• research outside of regular class times.
• integrate skills across the design and product development process and focus on the use and experimentation of design studio processes based on fashion industry requirements. This will result in the production of a fashion design product/s which meets specified design briefs

Week 1 - 2nd July
Outline of course and expectations
INDUSTRY PARTNER PROJECT 1
Re-Introduction of Brief, Duration of project is 8 Weeks
Review students design and research.Finalise your design and research, your concept and prepare a 200 word synopsis regarding the customer requirements of the industry partner.
Discuss suitability of designs with selected/proposed fabrics and trims with your teacher.
Week 2 – 9th July
Industry Partner Interviews/ feedback: Cotton On and Disney
COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE Review of designs and selection of final styles to be made.
Week 3 - 16th July
Industry Partner Interviews/ feedback: Adidas
COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE Review of designs and selection of final styles to be made.
Weeks 2 – 4(9th July to 23rd July)
Pattern and Toile Development
Consider suitability/Fit of blocks.
Assess toiles for pattern making outcomes
Begin to develop detailed costing for produced garments
Finalise toiles and patterns.
Visual Diary initial assessment
Information delivered regarding Project 2 "Future Visions"
Weeks 5 – 7 (30th July to 13th August)
Prepare and cut fabric
Finalise construction
Costing sheets and Specification Work– Due for review Week 6
Week 8 - 20th August
FINAL ASSESSMENT and PRESENTATION -NO FURTHER SEWING– Students to present their Final garments, specifications, costing and story boards to their Industry Partner.
Submit Final patterns with pattern specification sheet, Final toiles and Final garments,Design Specification Costing sheets for Assessment, Storyboards and Visual Diary for Assessment
Week 9 - 27th August
Project 2-“Future Visions” Duration of project is 8 Weeks
Assesment and attendance expectations
Continue with research and idea development sketches and fabric sourcing
Week 10 - 3rd September
Present Design and Research including fabric of your “Future Visions” brief requirements to your Design Studio 2 teacher for review and confirmation.
Week 11 – 13 (10th September - 8th October)
Commence Pattern and toile development
Consider suitability/Fit of blocks.
Visual Diary
Assess toiles for pattern making outcomes
Begin to develop Detailed costing for produced garments
Finalise toiles and patterns.
Colaborative project with Salford University in the UK will be scheduled during this period
Week 13 - 15 (8th - 22nd October )
Commence final construction
Costing sheets– Due for assessment Week 16
Week 16 -29th October
FINAL ASSESSMENT and PRESENTATION – NO FURTHER SEWING Students to present their Final garments, Design Specifications, Costing and Storyboards to staff and class.
Submit Final patterns with pattern specification sheet, Final toiles ,Final garments, Design Specifications, Costing sheets, Storyboards and Visual Diary for Assessment,

Pattern making equipment, rulers and set squares pattern scissors

Fabric purchased by the student suitable for toiling garments and producing final product with all linings and interlinings

Overview of Assessment
Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.
This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.
As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.
