Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to analyse the fit of a garment or toile on the individual body, making necessary adjustments and altering the pattern.

2.2 Comfort and fit is discussed with individual.
2.3 Necessary adjustments to garment or toile are made.
2.4 Agreement is reached on adjustments with individual.
2.5 Work schedule is developed with individual for future and
final fittings.

3. Make pattern alterations

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Tools and equipment are obtained and prepared for
altering patterns.
3.2 Required alterations are recorded.
3.3 Garment or toile alterations are transferred to the pattern.
3.4 Pattern alterations are finalised.
3.5 Final patterns are completed, labelled and checked for
accuracy and completeness of all necessary information,
to ensure compliance with specifications.
3.6 Patterns are filed and stored.
 


Learning Outcomes


On sucessful completion of this unit you will have developed the required skills and knowledge required as it applies to fitting a garment or toile on an individual and making size and fit alterations on the garment or toile; then transferring these alterations to the pattern. You will also develop the required skills in communication to take and document measurements and pattern requirements. Planning and organising, problem solving and initiative and enterprise skills as required to determine fit and pattern requirements. Self management skills as required to ensure quality standards are met.

The course is integrated with LMTFD5010A Develop and present Design concepts within specific guidelines
and LMTFD4004A Calculate cost estimates for fashion products to form a cluster or learning program called Design Studio 2.
In this course you will be involved in blended learning with both theoretical and practical tasks involved in the development and fit of patterns. This process will be integrated into the following key activities that you are required to undertake
• research outside of regular class times.
• integrate skills across the design and product development process and focus on the use and experimentation of design studio processes based on fashion industry requirements. This will result in the production of a fashion design product/s which meets specified design briefs

Design Studio 2 this semester will consist of two major projects and a minor costing assignment (that will be assessed as part of project 1). Some elements of these tasks will run concurrently and students are expected to time manage projects to ensure that all expected due dates are met.

Discuss final fabric swatches and design ideas.

Groups to present: visual diary, tech drawings (in Illustrator format), colour palette, fabric swatches and graphic to Industry Partner.
Selection of final styles by Industry Partner.

Overview of Assessment

Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.

This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.

As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.

PLEASE NOTE: work that has not been authenticated during class as your own work will not be considered for assessment.

There is an expectation that students regularly continue with their projects out of class. Recommended time is 3 1/4 hours per week for Design Studio 2.
Students should research and source information relating design to pattern-making and construction prior to each class in order to fully utilise their in class time efficiently.
