This unit covers the skills and knowledge to identify fibres and fabrics commonly used in the construction of garments and accessories

Learning Outcomes
In this unit you will be required to develop the skills and knowledge as it applies to identifying a wide range of fibres and fabrics used in the clothing industry. Fibres include natural and synthetic, and fabrics include knitted, woven and non-woven.
Details of Learning Activities
Lectures and Tutorials. Learning will be a combination of both theory and practical components. Lectures will occur every second week and tutorials every week.

Overview of Assessment
Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.
This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.
As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.
PLEASE NOTE: work that has not been authenticated during class as your own work will not be considered for assessment.
Assessment Tasks
Ungraded assessment tasks - All four assessment tasks must be completed to a satisfactory level to be deemed competent for this course.
1. Task 1 Fibre / Fabric Property Definitions Research a given fibre / fabric property and present findings.
2. Task 2 Fibre/Fabric (Generic & Trade names) are identified, researched and presented in the form of a Power Point Presentation
Graded assessment tasks - Once four assessment tasks are completed to a satisfactory level and you have been deemed competent for this course assessment tasks 3 & 4 will be graded and you may be eleigible to recieve a grade of credit to high distinction based on the work presented .
3. Task 3 Fabric Folio Oral Presentation of collated fabrics & yarns, research covering the construction process, physical, visual qualities and end uses.
4.Task 4 Demonstrate knowledge of Fibres and Fabrics.

All ungraded assessments must be completed to a competent standard to be eligible for grading and work that has not authenticated during class as your own will not be considered for assessment.
Regular attendance is necessary to demonstrate that you are competent at completing the following assessment tasks
Where there are multiple assessments for a single element the students must achieve competency in each assessment to be deemed competent. Only then can a graded result be given.
