Course Description

This unit covers skills and knowledge required to establish standards for the design and production of organisational documents and to manage document design and production processes to ensure agreed standards are met.  Employability Skills are applied where suitable.

It is recommended that you have access to a mobile computing device to allow greater flexibility in terms of where you can work on campus both in and outside class times.

Details of Learning Activities

Learners will experience a two week practical placement where they will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in planning and reviewing administration systems and procedures. Their class activities, self-directed learning and application of employability skills will focus on documenting requirements or modifications to administration system, developing appropriate activities to support system implementation and working with staff to identify system improvements. Learning activities will include in-class discussions, review of business case studies, exercises based on theory and experience, Internet research and  quizzes.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including in-class exercises, problem-solving exeercises, assignments, group or individual projects, work log book, work journal and practical placement.  Activities may include the production of technical requirements such as documents, direct observation of workplace practices and the presentation of a portfolio of evidence.  This portfolio may include documents, photographs, video and/or audio files.

Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.  Students will be provided with feedback throughout the course to check their progress.

Portfolio of Evidence
Students will compile a portfolio of evidence containing completed exercises taken from the prescribed textbook, the advanced management skills developed from the course work will assist students in the production of their three original document templates created as part of their Integrated Project. Students will submit their portfolio items electronically through myRMIT Studies and student progress will be monitored weekly by the class teacher for regular feedback.

Integrated Project
This integrated project is co-assessed with BUSM6242C (BSBADM503B) Plan or review administration systems. Students will experience a two week practical placement where they will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in planning and reviewing administration systems and procedures suitable for the placement organisation. The project will aim to document requirements or modifications to an administration system of the students’ choice develop appropriate activities to support system implementation and working with staff to identify system improvements for the future.

Please note: You must achieve competence in all elements before a pass grade can be achieved for this course. Due to the complex nature of this unit, you may be required to demonstrate competency more than once.

Assessments submitted late will attract a DNS/NYC grade. Refer to Student Diary for Special Consideration/Extension of Time procedure.

N.B: Students, who have been granted special consideration or are required to resubmit, will be able to submit/sit their assessment by arrangement with the class teacher during the scheduled class time in weeks 17 or 18.
