Details of Learning Activities

This course is co-delivered with BUSM6240C Manage Meetings, BUSM6241C Plan and Manage Conferences.  Your team (whether it is based in the VE or workplace) is required to ensure that the Conference is Carbon Neutral for the course Plan and Manage Conferences.  Your team is the conference committee you have been assigned to.  Your team will have a Sustainability Research Officer who will provide research data and information for the team.  Assign a Team Leader as early as possible.  Your learning is action based and you will apply theory to practice drawing on the textbook theory.

Some learning activities will include a self-directed learning approach.  Self-directed learning refers to organised activities that you will undertake independently, either as individuals or with other students that are supervised by a teacher.  This may include workplace research, library assignments, fieldwork and work placements.

Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular unit of competency to be deemed competent.  Students are advised that they will be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievements of each competency.  Assessments may incorporate a variety of methods: direct questioning combined with a review of portfolios of evidence, review of authenticated documents from the training environment and demonstration of techniques.

In addition to the assessments, feedback is provided to the students throughout the duration of the course.

Assessment Tasks

The student must demonstrate competence in all elements to be deemed competent in this unit.

Team Project Brief:

Using the marking guide in the Learning Hub you will play an active role in your team in developing within your team what’s new in terms of sustainability for events and report on your own progress, ask questions, share information and for problem-solving and ideas-gnerating discussion.  Your team will bring its ideas progressively responding to Parts A-D over the semester to make the Conference Carbon Neutral.  By Week 4 your team will formalise its team project by liaising with stakeholders and confirming that all aspects of sustainability are taken into account for the pre and post conference stages, not just at the time of the conference proceedings.  Due date schedule:

Part A: Due Week 5

Part B: Due Week 8

Part C: Due Week 12

Part D: Due Week 15

Assessment: individual observation

Your teacher will provide documented individual feedback weekly using the Marking Guide in the Learning Hub.  This will be assessed as competencies "developed" and "not yet developed" to provide progressive and formative assessment during the semester, rather than simply at the end of the course.
