Learning Outcomes

This course will provide you with a focus on the acquisition of essential industry skills.

On completion of this course you will be able to:
•    Prepare and maintain physical resources for the production of artworks
•    Explore a range of design elements and principles both using traditional and digital techniques
•    Produce both traditional and digital images

You will also have an understanding of:
•    Occupational health and safety procedures
•    Physical properties and capabilities of the most commonly used materials
•    Techniques, materials and tools and the way they can be adapted and extended in the production of artworks
•    Approaches to artworks and the work of key practitioners
•    Elements and principles of design
•    Historical and theoretical contexts (introductory level)
•    Copyright, moral rights and intellectual property issues

Details of Learning Activities

You will complete Workshops and Projects that are both traditional (collage on paper, gouache on paper – Semester 1) and digital (Photoshop images- Semester 1&2)

•    Workshops are short tasks usually involving the investigation of a specific set of principles  or Photoshop skill. Students usually work from a given set of imagery.
Digital submission on the Server is required for assessment.
•    Projects usually last three or more weeks involving a greater selection of imagery and individual direction.
Original artwork or printouts are required for submission.

i.    Workshop 4 :    Balloons & Clouds / Ducks / Apples
ii.   Workshop 5 :    Image Repair : Using the ‘clone’ and ‘healing brush’ tools / Imbedding Textures : Using the ‘blending modes’
iii.  Workshop 6 :    Workshop 6 : Photographic Illusions

iv.   Project 4: Photographic Imaging
Construct a Photoshop ‘illusion’ combining two or more photographic images.

v.   Project 5 - Elective Project
Self directed work investigating the use of the Photoshop program.

vi.  Project 6 - A Working Method
Self directed work investigating the use of the Photoshop program and following a working method.

Out-of-class activities include:
•practical exercises
•reading articles and excerpts
•preparing for discussion
•project work
•independent research.
