Course Description

You will explore the application of knowledge of the broad social and cultural context in which work is planned and implemented in the community services industry.
It will prepare you to understand your client groups and issues that impact on their lives and hence on respectful and thoughtful service delivery.

3.3 If required, revise aspects work undertaken and/or services provided to better address social and cultural issues and enhance outcomes clients, groups or communities

On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements.


Details of Learning Activities

You will be involved in learning activities in 1 day long workshop which will include group discussions and group work activities based on workshop content. You will also be required to undertake independent studies. Reflection on your own work context is a significant aspect of this course and you will be given opportunities to discuss and think about your own practice.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course is based on written responses to questions about the social and cultural issues impacting on Australian society, and an evaluation of the issues impacting on a local community including their access to responsive community services.


Assessment Tasks

For this unit you will be required to complete two assessment tasks:

Assessment task 1- Social and cultural issues impacting on Australian society: for this task you will be required to provide written responses to a DVD scenario and fact sheets about the social and cultural issues impacting on Australian society.

Assessment task 2 – Social and cultural issues impacting on the community and their access to community services: for this task you will be required to respond to written questions about the social and cultural issues impacting on local community members including their access to responsive services.
