Course Description

In this course you will explore  the knowledge and skills required to support the community to represent their own needs through social and public action

Details of Learning Activities

You will be involved in learning activities in 1 day long & 1 evening  workshop which will include group discussions and group work activities based on workshop content. You will also be required to undertake independent studies. Reflection on your own work context is a significant aspect of this course and you will be given opportunities to discuss and think about your own practice.

Preparatory reading material and/or youtube recordings will be made available prior to workshops (where relevant). Where the teacher has used a powerpoint presentation during the workshop, these resources and other learning activities and handouts will be made available to enroled students post the workshop via electronic methods.


Overview of Assessment

The assessment activities for this course require you to demonstrate how you have developed processes, within the context of your community organisation or group and in collaboration with community members, to identify and respond  to community needs through collective action including capacity building. You will be required  to complete written documentation which demonstrates how you have effectively worked with your community and  provide reflection upon the successes and challenges of community activities undertaken to address shared issues.


Assessment Tasks

For this course you will be required to complete and submit 2 assessments tasks.                                                               

Task 1:  Provide a written response to specific  questions which elicit responses regarding:

  • How you work with your group or organisation and key community members to identify and respond to the collective issues of the communitys interests
  • How you support your community to develop strategies to meet identified needs
  • Description of  the activities you undertake to address these issues/needs
  • How you work with your organisation and the community to reflect upon the effectiveness and challenges of the activities undertaken                                                                                                                                                               

Task 2: Provide the following workplace or community volunteer project documentation to support your written responses:

  • A needs analysis documenting  your process and analysis of community and key organisational needs
  • a diary entry reflecting appointments/arrangements made to support community action
  • brief report or minutes of a meeting which detail how you have supported your community to address issues /identified needs                                        

Task 2 : Provide a thrid party testimonial evidencing how you work with community members to build their capacity in relation to meeting community needs in order to achieve community project objectives
