Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to source information on design history and theory, and to apply that information to one’s own area of work.

This unit applies to individuals who work in design and need to develop and maintain a general knowledge of design history and theory.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1 - Historical Style File (continued from Semester 1)
Prepare a written piece for 8 Historical Periods, detailing the following Design Philosophy, Features & Motifs, Materials, Colours, Furniture and Accessories. Include images to support your writing.
Assessment Task 2 - Quick Quiz (continued from Semester 1)
8 weekly quizes of 10 questions regarding the period covered in the previous lecture.
Assessment Matrix
You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time. The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome. At the completion of the course, grading will be offered in addition to, and after, competency based assessment.

Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.
