Course Description

This unit covers the competency to identify and assess the occupational health and safety (OHS) implications of effects used in interior decoration and design.

Learning Outcomes


This unit supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required for the assessment of interior decoration and design effects, including furniture, hard and soft materials and accessories, to determine potential hazards for a range of customer groups.

Overview of Assessment

• Comply with legislation, regulations, standards, codes of practice and established safe practices and procedures for risk management in an interior decoration and design work environment
• Locate and apply safety information
• Assess safety aspects of interior decoration and design solutions for a range of customers
• Address risks and hazards in interior decoration and design
• Complete a minimum of three risk assessments of interior decoration and design solutions including the determination of required treatments
• Work effectively with others


Assessment Tasks

Task 1 - OH&S Quiz for Interiors.  Online Quiz to be completed in class time, open book.

You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time. The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome. At the completion of the course, grading will be offered in addition to, and after, competency based assessment.

Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.
