Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake financial management within a work team in an organisation. This includes planning and implementing financial management approaches, supporting team members whose role involves aspects of financial operations, monitoring and controlling finances, and reviewing and evaluating effectiveness of financial management processes in line with the financial objectives of the work team and the organisation. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

Details of Learning Activities

           

Students will learn through a number of planned activities (face to face classes, workplace/site visits, simulated workplace learning, online learning via blackboard and other forms of structured teaching and learning). Students will be observed and assessed through their planned activities throughout the duration of the course.

Teaching Schedule

Week 1: Defining the operational process of an organisation and embedding into a tangible business plan. Demonstrates how to create a robust business plan by, documenting the process required to achieve set outcomes and objectives. 

Week 2: Considers what is required to establish and create an Operational budget by covering aspects of cost of sales, income and expense and profit and loss. Discusses tools that can be used to examine the validity of the business through analysis of internal and external factors that may affect profitability.  

 

Week 3: Determine the value of the organisation through, Assets- Liabilities and cash-flow.  

 

Week 4: Procurement processes are an important aspect of any business and require particular attention. No business plan is complete until the procurement processes are defines. Particularly if the organisation plans to outsource goods and services.  

 

Week 5: Examines the importance of implementing an operational plan, giving consideration on what is measured and reviewed and well the strategic fit aligns with the progress of the plan 

Week 6: Categorising risk within any environment is important so when creating a business plan it is essential not only to understand and define risk but also to categorise and establish working parameters to ensure that the business plan is run by facts and not emotions.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including written/oral activities and demonstration of practical skills to the relevant industry standards. Assessment Tasks

             

              

 
Blackboard is an on-line resource with the lesson plans for each unit. Within Blackboard are the session lessons plans, assessments, resources and other materials required for completion of each unit of competency. Blackboard Collaborate is an on-line delivery system within Blackboard that may be utilised as a virtual classroom that may be a part of the overall lesson delivery plan.

Projects and Presentations
Students will be required to complete a group project that forms the assessment. These may be in the form of reports, research, analysis, and other documents that provide evidence of the competency in the unit. There will be a presentation of the group report on the final week.

Late Submission:

The application must be lodged no later than one working day before the official due date. You will be notified within no more than two working days of the date of lodgement as to whether the extension has been granted.
