Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop and monitor implementation of the operational plan to provide efficient and effective workplace practices within the organisation’s productivity and profitability plans. Management at a strategic level requires systems and procedures to be developed and implemented to facilitate the organisation’s operational plan. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

1.1. Research, analyse and document resource requirements and develop an operational plan in consultation with relevant personnel, colleagues and specialist resource managers

3.5. Negotiate recommendations for variations to operational plans and gain approval from designated persons/groups

Details of Learning Activities

Students will learn through a number of planned activities (face to face classes, workplace/site visits, simulated workplace learning, online learning via blackboard and other forms of structured teaching and learning). Students will be observed and assessed through their planned activities throughout the duration of the course.

Week 1

Defining the operational process of an organisation and embedding into a tangible business plan. Demonstrates how to create a robust business plan by, documenting the process required to achieve set outcomes and objectives.

Week 2

Considers what is required to establish and create an Operational budget by covering aspects of cost of sales, income and expense and profit and loss. Discusses tools that can be used to examine the validity of the business through analysis of internal and external factors that may affect profitability.

Week 3

Determine the value of the organisation through, Assets- Liabilities and cash-flow.

Week 4

Procurement processes are an important aspect of any business and require particular attention. No business plan is complete until the procurement processes are defines. Particularly if the organisation plans to outsource goods and services.

Week 5

Examines the importance of implementing an operational plan, giving consideration on what is measured and reviewed and well the strategic fit aligns with the progress of the plan

Week 6

Categorising risk within any environment is important so when creating a business plan it is essential not only to understand and define risk but also to categorise and establish working parameters to ensure that the business plan is run by facts and not emotions.

Blackboard
Blackboard is an on-line resource with the lesson plans for each unit. Within Blackboard are the session lessons plans, assessments, resources and other materials required for completion of each unit of competency. Blackboard Collaborate is an on-line delivery system within Blackboard that may be utilised as a virtual classroom that may be a part of the overall lesson delivery plan.
 

Project based assessment - There is a group project based assessment which is the form of a reports, research, analysis, and other documents that provide evidence of the competency in the unit.  The report will be delivered as a group presentation in the final week of the course.
In class observation of student’s work is required to confirm Competency.
