Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use appropriate tools, equipment, software and protocols to install, operate, and troubleshoot medium enterprise switches.

Overview of Assessment
The participant must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.
Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, workplace activities, in class exercises, quizzes, practical problem solving exercises and presentations. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit.
Evidence of the ability to:
◦ plan and prepare for the WAN link installation task
◦ install and configure WAN links
◦ configure and trouble the following IP services:
◦ NAT
◦ DHCP
◦ ACLs
◦ configure and troubleshoot ADSL links
◦ configure and troubleshoot VPN’s.
Overview of assessment tasks
Assessment will be broken down into 2 parts:
*Both parts will be required to be meet the instructors satisfaction in order to be deemed as competent.
Cisco CCNA 4 Exam:
Students will be required to complete the exam at RMIT. This exam will be done in class. Students will be required to achieve a score of 50% in order to be deemed competent.
Skills Based Assessment
Students will be required to demonstrate skills that they have learned in this course. This assessment can be done wither at RMIT or at the workplace, providing appropriate equipment is available.
Skills required to be demonstrated include:
• Configure PPP using either PAP or CHAP
• Configuration of Frame Relay
• Creation and Configuration of a VPN
• Ability to create and use DHCP
• Ability to configure NAT
• Create, apply and modify ACL’s
