Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to install and configure a server as part of an upgrade to an existing network or the implementation of a new network.

Details of Learning Activities
Considers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to install and manage a server. Server management includes initial configuration and testing as well as ongoing administration and troubleshooting. Server management includes initial configuration and testing, ongoing administration, software distribution and updates, profiling and monitoring servers and troubleshooting.
Class pracs, classroom discussion are part of the learning activities, as well as work-based experiences and activies.
Internet hyperlinks to technical documents and references including Youtube will be used as a learning tool and resource.
Learning activities may be modified during the semester to meet the needs of students in the current program and the needs of their workplace.

Overview of Assessment
The participant must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.
Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, workplace activities, in class exercises, quizzes, practical problem solving exercises and presentations. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

These assessments can be done either at RMIT or at the workplace providing appropriate equipment is available.
All pracs need to be satisfactorily completed to pass the course.
