Course Description

In this course you will cover the knowledge and skills required to research, evaluate and determine the appropriate colour management strategies required for a range of photographic printing projects.

You will also cover the skills and technical knowledge to plan, coordinate and manage the accuracy, consistency and integrity of colour in their printing workflows to an industry standard.

1.1 Identify colour theories as they apply to the digital imaging context using appropriate sources of information and standards

1.4 Investigate the areas of capture, display, output and archive spaces in contemporary digital imaging devices where colour management is critical to the production of a quality product

Learning Outcomes


On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to research, evaluate and determine the appropriate colour management strategy required for a range of photographic printing projects.

You will have the knowledge to plan, coordinate and manage the accuracy, consistency and integrity of colour in their printing workflows to industry standard.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment tasks include practical exercises in applied colour management including:
monitor calibration
soft proof tests and test prints
Test prints demonstrating rendering intents, colour spaces & resolution
Proof sheet prints as hardcopy
Folio of four prints
Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester.
 


Assessment Tasks

 Assessment items include:

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT

  1. Two pigmented inkjet prints
    Produce two colour managed inkjet prints with relevant colour profiles applied to test rendering intents, colour spaces & resolution for output. Provide final prints and submit a pdf containing the jpeg images with descriptions of the colour management strategies and profiles used.
    Due - week 8


SUMMATIVE GRADED ASSESSMENT

  1. Folio – 4 Prints
    Produce a folio of four pigmented inkjet prints which apply advanced colour management strategies.
    Provide final prints, digital files and submit a pdf containing the smaller jpeg images with descriptions of the colour management strategies and profiles used to produce the final pigmented inkjet prints.
    Due –Week 15

Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this unit are graded.
