Course Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required for you to design and manufacture registration rims for removable prostheses. The registration rims that you manufacture are used for full dentures and also partial dentures. You will construct a range of stabilised base plates as well as the use of wax and wire.
All procedures are carried out in accordance with work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures, current infection control guidelines, Australian and New Zealand Standards, state/territory legislative requirements and organisation policy.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course you will be able to demonstrate, on a consistent basis, the process involved in construction of registration rims used for full dentures and partial dentures including the construction of a range of baseplates.
Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed in a simulated workplace and under the normal range of work conditions.
You will be assessed on both the essential knowledge and the demonstration of essential skills through;
- Completion of practical exercises - including detailed self reflection of each exercise
- Practical exam - Construction of F/F Registration Rims on stabilised baseplates within the time limit of 3.5 hours
- Theory exam - Pass mark 60%
