Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required for you to reline (adding a new fitting surface to a denture), rebase (extensive changes to the base of denture), repair and modify removable prostheses (re-fitting broken parts of a denture to return it to function). The different facets of this unit of competence are very common techniques that you will use whilst working in the Dental Industry.  
The All procedures are carried out in accordance with occupational health and safety policies and procedures, current infection control guidelines, Australian and New Zealand Standards, state/territory legislative requirements and organisation policy.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be able to demonstrate, on a consistent basis, the process involved in the repair of a range of different dentures including full and partial dentures. The modifications you will make include a denture reline; creating a new fitting surface for the denture that provides a better for the patient as well as replacing an existing tooth on a denture - due to fracture.


Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed in a simulated workplace and under the normal range of work conditions.

You will be assessed on both the essential knowledge and the demonstration of essential skills through;

Completion of practical exercises - including detailed self-reflection or each exercise
Practical exam
Theory exam
