Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge you will require to construct a trial prothesis suitable for insertion in the mouth; convert it to clinically acceptable materials and finish. The prosthesis you construct will cover a range of different types of "average" patient jaw relationships as well as "abnormal jaw relationships". The prosthesis (denture) constructed will need to be constructed in a way that it is suitable for insertion into a patients mouth.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be able to demonstrate, on a consistent basis, the arrangement of artificial teeth for complete prosthesis (dentures) as well as techniques for converting the wax trial dentures into a final hard acrylic suitable for wear by a patient. You will set teeth in various arrangements in accordance with a prescription and be exposed to different techniques of curing the dentures.

You will be assessed in a simulated workplace and under the normal range of work conditions.

You will be assessed on both the essential knowledge and the demonstration of essential skills through;

Completion of practical exercises - including detailed self reflection of each exercise
Practical exam
Theory exam
