Overview of Assessment

Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment tasks will require you demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills through practical projects and/or written tasks. Assessment tasks in this course are:

  • Design Project 1
  • Design Project 2
    Design Project 3

Assessment Tasks

Formative Task 1

A folio of exercises: basic masks, clipping paths, complex masking, layer styles and a graphic on ergonomics. Each exercise must be completed to an acceptable level. This assessment will be used to identify trengths and areas for improvement. Due week 5

Formative Task 2: Research project

Students will research techniques and apply them to two images; a photographic self-portrait and an inanimate object. Students will then refine these images based on feedback and to establish a unique sense of style. Work will be assessed on the quality of work, technical expertise and refinement of work based on feedback. There is some scope for negotiation on the topics. The main aim of this assessment task is to provide feedback and experience, as well as moving toward the development of a unique style. Due week 10

Summative Task 1: Folio of techniques.

Students with generate a folio of work (4 pieces of work – or more) that showcase advanced digital art techniques, and record and present the process for two of these pieces. These can be refined existing pieces of work created after the commencement of the course for external work (but not work previously submitted). Each piece must demonstrate a different technique. Students are encouraged to use existing work as a basis and further develop them into mock-ups. This project will involve some collaboration with the Multimedia subject. Due week 15

The summative task will determine the grade for this course.

Grades which apply to courses delivered in accordance with competency based assessment, but which also use graded assessment:
HDCompetent with High Distinction
CDI Competent with Distinction
CC Competent with Credit
CAG Competency Achieved Graded
NYCNot Yet Competent
DNS Did Not Submit for Assessment

Assessment Matrix

The assessment matrix demonstrates alignment of assessment tasks with the relevant Unit of Competency. These are available through the course contact in Program administration.
