Course Description

In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge required to interpret plans, client specifications, and undertake basic architectural drafting to produce industry standard working drawings for retail and exhibition design spaces.

Element:	1. Produce industry standard page layouts.
Performance Criteria:	1.1.Establish purpose and scope of the drawings. 1.2.Use and maintain drafting equipment and materials according to industry standards. 1.3.Select and use appropriate drawing instruments. 1.4.Ensure drafts reflect accurate lines of standard widths to delineate object and projection lines. 1.5.Apply line work in a range of different types and media, according to standard industry drawing practice. 1.6.Add letter text in a variety of formats and according to architectural conventions. 1.7.Identify and use different drawing scales. 1.8.Incorporate appropriate graphic symbols. 1.9.Add notations and dimensions to complete drawing.
Element:	2. Produce dimensional scale orthographic drawings.
Performance Criteria:	2.1.Draft accurate layout, dimension and scale of orthographic projections of given objects. 2.2.Produce orthographic projections to industry standard.
Element:	3. Produce scale dimensional drawings of objects and interiors.
Performance Criteria:	3.1.Maintain accurate angles and proportions in isometric and axonometric projections according to orthographic drawings. 3.2.Maintain correct dimensions in all scale drawings
Element:	4. Produce design solutions in response to client briefs.
Performance Criteria:	4.1.Describe object, space, scale and accurate dimensions in selected orthographic views. 4.2.Identify and produce appropriate projections to fulfil client briefs. 4.3.Complete rendered illustrations using axonometric or isometric projections according to client specifications.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills.
Assessment tasks are:
2 x major projects
 

Please note: All Assessment tasks need to be completed before competency is achieved. A number of tasks will be formative to show your progress and development of skills and knowledge throughout the semester. The final task will be summative to provide a level of performance in addition to your competency.

Assessment Tasks

1 Drafting conventions: Title Block and 3rd Angle - You will produce drawings and hand lettering to meet AS1100 drafting conventions, whilst demonstrating the correct use of drawing equipment and materials.
Scale Drawing , Merchandiser 1 , You will produce drawings to nominated scales discussed in class. You will be required to demonstrate an understanding of, and competency in technical drawing skills such as, scale, notation, layout, accuracy, reference symbols, abbreviations, dimensioning, and using technical drafting equipment.
Isometric drawing : - You will produce orthographic isometric projections to industry standard. You will produce technical drawings to meet AS1100 drafting conventions. You will produce drawings to nominated scales discussed in class. You will be required to demonstrate an understanding of, and competency in technical drawing skills such as, scale, notation, layout, accuracy, reference symbols, abbreviations, dimensioning, and using technical drafting equipment.

All the above exercises will be submitted as a folio of work at the end of the course in week 16. This will give you the opportunity to make any final amendments to work before final submission. This will be graded at 25% value

2 Shop Drawing - You will draft up detailed plans and elevations of a retail store to meet AS1100 drafting conventions. You will produce drawings to nominated scales discussed in class. You will be required to demonstrate an understanding of, and competency in technical drawing skills such as, scale, notation, layout, accuracy, reference symbols, abbreviations, dimensioning, sectioning, and using technical drafting equipment. This will be graded at 75% value

For submission time lines refer to 16 week "Teaching Schedule".

Note: "Technical Drawing" encompasses both WRRVM7A - Produce Perspective Drawings Plans and Elevations (MKTG5862C - RMIT code) Semester 1, and WRRVM6A - Produce Working Drawings (MKTG5868C - RMIT code) Semester 2. To gain an assessment of "Competent CA" in Technical Drawing students must successfully complete and pass both WRRVM7A - Produce Perspective Drawings Plans and Elevations, and WRRVM6A - Produce Working Drawings.

Assessment will be ongoing and cumulative.
